Brussels Forum on Trust in Education 2024: Skills and Structures in the AI EraBrussels, Belgium, February 14, 2024- At a critical moment when artificial intelligence is profoundly reshaping the global education landscape, the "Forum on Trust in Education," hosted by the Global Education Institute with support from the International Digital Education Alliance (IDEA), was held today in Brussels. With the theme "AI Skills and Trust Structures for Future Learning," the forum attracted representatives from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Education and Culture, UNESCO, and renowned universities including Oxford and Cambridge.
The forum focused on three core issues: the boundaries and ethical challenges of AI-empowered education, the design of skill frameworks for future learning, and how to build "trust-first" curriculum and talent certification mechanisms on a global scale. Experts unanimously agreed that rebuilding structural trust mechanisms in education is more urgent than ever against the backdrop of rapid AI technology development.
The highlight of the forum was IDEA's proposed "Structural Trustworthiness + Algorithm Transparency" education platform trust standard draft. This draft not only focuses on the quality of educational content itself but also emphasizes the transparency and explainability of the structural systems and algorithmic mechanisms that support the content, receiving high praise from participating institutions. Maria Rodriguez, Special Advisor for Educational Innovation at the European Commission, stated: "The dual standard framework proposed by IDEA provides a new perspective for thinking about education certification in the AI era, with considerations on algorithmic transparency being particularly impressive."
After the forum, IDEA Executive Chair Dr. Richard Wilson announced that the alliance plans to launch the first pilot projects based on this standard in 2025, covering educational institutions across Europe, Asia, and North America, aiming to verify and refine the practical application of this innovative trust standard.
