IDEA Featured at the 2024 Luxembourg Digital Education Forum[LUXEMBOURG DAILY] The 7th Luxembourg Digital Education Forum opened grandly yesterday in Luxembourg City, bringing together education policymakers, academic institution representatives, and technology enterprise leaders from over 40 countries to explore the future landscape of education in the digital era. As a special guest, Dr. Sophie Laurent, Global Strategy Director of the International Digital Education Accreditation Alliance (IDEA), delivered a keynote speech titled "Reconstructing the Foundation of Trust in the Digital Education Era," which sparked lively discussion among the delegates.
In her speech, Dr. Laurent systematically expounded on the theoretical foundation and practical path of IDEA's global certification standards, emphasizing the importance of establishing a unified, trustworthy global certification mechanism against the backdrop of increasingly frequent cross-border flow of digital education. "Education in the digital age is no longer limited by geographical boundaries, but trust still has boundaries," Laurent pointed out. "The core mission of IDEA certification is to enable education trust to flow freely across national boundaries through structured, transparent standard systems."
The speech particularly introduced IDEA's recently completed certification case of Luxembourg's National Institute of Technology, analyzing in detail the innovative practices discovered during the certification process, such as transnational virtual learning communities and multilingual intelligent teaching platforms. "Luxembourg, as a multilingual and multicultural country, has unique value in its digital education innovative practices, especially in cross-cultural teaching design and multilingual learning support," Laurent stated.
During the forum, many participating institutions from various countries expressed strong interest in IDEA certification. Professor Michael Schmidt, Chairman of the German Digital Education Alliance, stated during a roundtable discussion: "The global certification framework provided by IDEA fills the gap between existing regional certification systems, helping to promote the flow and sharing of digital education resources within the European Higher Education Area." Claire Dubois, Director of the Digital Education Innovation Center at Sorbonne University in France, emphasized: "While maintaining the diversity of European education, we need global standards like IDEA to enhance our international competitiveness."
A highlight of this forum was the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement between IDEA and the forum's organizer, the Luxembourg Digital Education Council, jointly launching the "Alliance for Future Education" initiative. The alliance aims to connect global education innovators to build an open, inclusive, and sustainable digital education ecosystem.
Luxembourg's Minister of Education, Jean Meyers, who witnessed the signing, stated: "Luxembourg has always been committed to promoting the integrated development of education internationalization and digitalization. Cooperation with IDEA will help us position Luxembourg as an important participant and contributor to global digital education standards, rather than merely a recipient of standards."
It is reported that the first cooperation project of the "Alliance for Future Education" will focus on research into the global mutual recognition mechanism for "Micro-credentials," with research findings and implementation guidelines planned for release early next year. IDEA will also establish a European regional office in Luxembourg to deepen cooperation with European educational institutions.
At the forum's closing ceremony, Dr. Laurent stated: "Luxembourg's spirit of openness and innovation highly aligns with IDEA's mission. We look forward to working together through this strategic cooperation to build a more open, fair, and interconnected global digital education ecosystem." |
